Obituary for Anzonetta "Miss Netty" Miles

Anzonetta "Miss Netty" Miles
Anzonetta Miles, affectionately known as "Miss Netty", was born on November 15th, 1926 to Beatrice Brissett in Pierce's Village in the district of Ramble, in Hanover, Jamaica. The oldest of 3 children, Miss Netty often helped her mother look after her 2 younger sisters, Cornutis and Clementina. She attended school in Hanover, and after completing school at the age of 17, moved to Bath, St. Thomas with her mother.
While living in Bath, Anzonetta attended the Bath Seventh Day Adventist Church and Served as a deaconess. She was well known for her cooking and baking talents and could always be found whipping up a wholesome meal in the kitchen. She was especially well known for her sweet potato and cornmeal pudding with the soft top and ginger beer. Miss Netty brought her culinary expertise with her when she relocated to Kingston, Jamaica and attended the Washington Gardens Seventh Day Adventist Church, where she was a member for over 10 years. Not one to often be found in the spotlight, Miss Netty was a quiet force behind the scenes. At Washington Gardens, she continued her service as a deaconess, and also ministered to the poor, sick, and shut-in through the Dorcas Society. Her cooking provided physical nourishment to many members of the community, and the love she poured into it nourished their souls.
A hardworking lady, her friends describe Miss Netty as "likkle but tallawah". Though small in stature, Miss Netty was no stranger to hard work, and made many sacrifices to make sure her five children were well cared for.

After the birth of her fifth granddaughter in 1994, Anzonetta migrated to the United States to assist in her care, and resided with her daughter Arriette in North Carolina. Over the nearly 25 years that she spent in the United States, Miss Netty lived between North Carolina, Carolina, and New York, providing loving care and attention to her children and grandchildren. An avid watcher of Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, Miss Netty rarely missed a show and preferred not to be disturbed during that hour. Any phone calls that came in while these shoes were on were sure to have been shorter than usual .

A lovimg and caring mother and grandmother who exemplified dedication, hard work, and commitment in all she did, Miss Netty leaves to lovingly cherish her memory: her children-Winston "Barry" (Beverly), Eaton (Marlene), Arriette(Clement), and Ean (Lovell); grandchildren-Jacueline, Shawn, Adrian "Dave", Jevaugn "Junior", Marsha, Stefani, Marquis, Jaiden, Jhenielle, Jordan, Lovan, Shamark; one sister-Clementina, as well as host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends. One daughter,Carmeta, and one sister Cornutis, preceded her in death. We all lovingly cherish her memory.
