Gabrielle B. Scott aka Dibby was born on June 1, 1955 in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Herbert and Pearl Small. She had 4 siblings named Herbert Small Jr.,Suzzane Stokes,Jeffery Small Sr., and Christopher Small. Dibby grew up in Marcy Houses in Brooklyn and attended P.S. 168 Elementary School and Sarah J. Hale High School. She continued her education at Medgar Evers College where she obtained her Bachelors Degree. She later attended Barbizon Modeling School.
At a tender age, Dibby,married Wayne Scott , Sr. The couple resided in Bedford Stuyvesant , Brooklyn N.Y. To this union was born Wayne Scott,Jr., in 1976 and Justo Scott in 1981. Dibby was a stay at home mother to Wayne and Justo.
Dibby was a loyal and faithful member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in Brooklyn, NY since 1971. At Mount Pisgah she served as a member under the ministry of Reverend Murray. She loved her church family and enjoyed worship services, outings and fellowshipped regularly.
Rooted in a love for family and friends, Dibby hosted gatherings and celebrations for them on many occasions. She was an avid shopper, true friend and confidant known to keep a good secret. She loved her garden. She came in 1st place for the City Wide NYCHA Garden & Greening Program Competition award. The "Dib-b-Ville Garden in West Brooklyn. She considered Earlene aka Claudia , Donna, Richardine, Kenny and Derrick close friends just to name a few.
Dibby kept photo albums full of family and friends happy memories. She collected coins and stamps on her free time. She enjoyed cooked with liver being one of her favorite dishes. She was always reachable by phone and known to greet you with an "Aloha". Boxing and Basketball were two of her favorite sports to watch. She was a big fan of Isaiah Thomas and Sugar Ray Leonard.
Dibby became a grandmother in 2010 and now has 3 granddaughters named Zoey, Lana, and Nora. She enjoyed shopping for them, teaching and playing with them whenever she could.
Dibby started teaching at P.S. 59, in Brooklyn NY in 2008. She had always been passionate about teaching her students. She retired after 10 years where she built a few good relationships. We thank God for Dibby's life. She will be sorely missed.
Dibby leave behind her only sister Suzzie and two sons Wayne and Justo. Several nieces, Janina Stokes,Desiree Jones, Nikeea Breland and Camille Morgan. Two nephews, Maurice Stokes and Jeffrey Small Jr. and three granddaughters, Zoey Scott, Lana Scott and Nora Scott and a host of other family and friends.
