Obituary for Elaine Thomas-Moore

Elaine J. Thomas Moore was born on November 15, 1942 in the city of Monrovia , Liberia on the West Coast of Africa. Elaine was nurtured and raise by her mother Mary Deborah Carter-Coleman -Dixon and her husband Rev. Samuel R.E. Dixon and by her father Hon. H. Carey Thomas and his wife Rebecca "Ma Rebecca" Thomas.
As a child, Elaine loved playing with her brothers.sisters,nieces and nephews. Her favorite activity was playing with dolls. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and joined Zion Grove Baptist Church in Brewerville, Liberia.
Elaine attended Lott Carey Mission School in Brewerville, Liberia where she graduated high school. In 1971, she began working as a secretary for the Republic of Liberia at the esteemed Maritime Affairs office. This opportunity brought her from the sandy shores of Monrovia to the hustle and bustle of New York City. Upon coming to the United States, she continued to cultivate her faith and joined Concord Baptist Church in Brooklyn New York. The following summer, on August 12, 1972, Elaine was joined in Holy Matrimony to James C. Moore at the very same Concord Baptist Church in Brooklyn. This union was blessed with one son, Cahnlay Moore.
Even with the full load of being a wife, mother, and career woman the early 80's became the right time for Elaine to pursue higher learning. After working at the Borough of Manhattan Community College and Baruch College, New York she began taking classes. In 1983, she obtained an Associate Degree in Business Administration from Bernard M/ Baruch College, CUNY,New York. She graduated with her Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Human Resources Management in 1985.
Elaine's love for education soon led her to join the New York Department of Education. In the Fall of 1988 she began working as an educator. Her teaching career spanned well over 20 years and gave her the opportunity to impact the lives of hundreds of elementary and middle school students.
When Elaine began searching for ways to strengthen her faith she was guided to the Greater Bible Temple. She was baptized in Jesus name, filled with the gift of the Holy Ghost, and has remained a steadfast and dedicated member of the church for more than 30 years. Elaine is affectionately called "Mother Moore"
Mother Moore worked at the alter and in the prayer room, interceding for all that needed prayer. No matter what the time of day or night you would find her on a prayer line. She founded The Amazing Miracle Prayer Line in March of 2015. She co-hosted the Jesus Connection Prayer Line for 5 years. Mother Moore was also member of the Gospel Train Prayer Line, The Hour of Power Family Prayer Line and Faith Believers Pray line.
Mother Moore later became the Vice-President of the Missionary Department. Missionary- Evangelist Moore was the first women to be appointed, Missionary Evangelist. She also served as an International Senior Missionary for Bible Way Church World Wide under the leadership of Dr. Juliet Fisher. Mother Moore never tired of doing the will of God or the work God on her missions journey. She was a faithful member of the Helping Hands for over 20 years. Missionary-Evangelist Moore was committed to visiting the sick and shut-in as well as inmates in prison. "I can't" was never the answer when it came to visiting, praying , and offering words of encouragement to those who needed it the most.
Mother Moore always had a heart to teach and she supported teaching. She taught the youth division of Greater Bibleway Sunday School. She was a member of the (ETA) the Evangelist Teaching Association and a team member of the El Shaddai teaching ministry , an organization the reaches souls through radio broadcasts.
In Mother Moore's leisure time, she enjoyed playing, reading and cooking for her loving grandchildren, son Cahnlay and daughter -in-love" Josette. Mother Moore loved reading, playing board games (like Monopoly), watching her favorite basketball team (Go Knicks) and her favorite shows like The Jeffersons, Family Feud and Judge Judy. Mother Moore lived a very full life. One could argue that with each passing yer she had more on her schedule. On any given day you could catch her shopping for hats and dresses for her next big even, being neighborly with her beloved Bible study fellows, kingdom building with the Street missionaries, or carrching with an extensive network of family and friends. Mother Moore was a rel family woman, a genuine friend, and a true person of faith. She will be remembered and missed for her lovely smile and the sweet " Praise the Lord" that usually accompanied it.
Missionary -Evangelist Elaine J. Thomas Moore was called home on Monday July 30th 2018. she was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Deborah Carter- Coleman Dixon and her husband Rev. Samuel R.E.Dixon ; father, H. Carey Thomas and his wife Rebecca Thomas.; siblings Joseph S.O. Coleman, SR., Ophelia Coleman, Shirley Thomas, Titus Thomas, Magdeline Thomas-Sackie and Martha Coleman; brother-in-law: Hon. D, Colston Nelson, Sr. and Rev. Counselor Peter Amos George, Sr.; sister-in-law: Elizabeth Gibson -Coleman and Catherine Jenkins-Thomas.
To cherish her memory, Mother Moore Moore leaves her son, Cahnlay Moore and daughter- in--law Josette; ex husband , James C. Moore; grandchildren: Qadir, Samira, Naqiya, Wakil and Nazzem; sibling: Joanna Eva George, Claudia A. Nelson, William Thomas and sister-in-law Edith, Pairlene Padmore and Brother-in-law Arthur, Harmon Thomas, Timothy Thomas, Mckinley "Mac" Thomas & sister-in-law Hannah, David Thomas and sister-in-law Amanda, Homer Carey Thomas, Bonita Thomas, Famatta Thomas; several nieces, nephew, cousins, her church family and a host of relatives and friends in the united States, Liberia, Europe and from around the world.
