Obituary for Deleon Thomas Brunson Jr.

Deleon Thomas Brunson Jr.
Deacon Deleon T. Brunson, Jr. was born on January 14, 1961 to the late Henrietta Robinson and Deacon Deleon T. Brunson, Sr. He has one son, the joy and pride of his life, Deleon T. Brunson III (mother, Mrs. Bronda Cooper). Deleon graduated from Norman Thomas High School in New York, and attended Kingsborough College in Queens, New York. Deleon's career was primarily spent in the banking industry and most recently he was employed by the U.S. postal service. Deacon Brunson accepted Christ as a young man and joined the Mount Sion Baptist Church in 1993 under the late Rev. J.O. Johnson. Under his leadership, he served as President of the Gospel Chorus and Chairman of the Trustee Board. Deacon Brunson later reunited with his high school friend, Ms.Andrea Whittleton and they were married on July 5, 1997. They developed an unique and "unbreakable" bond. As a man of God, Deacon Brunson, brought his wife and son together as one family and lived under the principle "as for me and my house we will serve the Lord". They began serving God together at Mount Sion and were ordained as Deacon and Deaconess under the current Pastor Rev. Dan J. Craig. Deacon Brunson then served as Director of the Mass Choir, Drama Ministry member, and lastly Chairman of the Deacon Board.
Deleon was frank and to the point. Yet he was gifted with an awesome sense of humor. There was countless stories of "you know what Brunson said:" and while retelling the story, laughing to tears. His sense of Humor will be sorely missed, but the memories of laughter and jokes will live in our hearts forever. Deleon loved music, dancing, acting and the arts. He was great at all of them. Most of all though, God blessed him with a melodic voice. You would often hear him singing through the halls of the church, singing in his home, singing in his car, singing as he walked the streets and just about anywhere he felt like striking up on note. As his aunt Dolores would say, his personality filled the room. Deleon has one brother, Wayne who is about 6'2. Yet in Deleon's heart he remained "my little brother" and he would never forsake his big brother role to love and protect him. Deleon loved all people. Even if he was annoyed he would actually spend time thinking of how to like you. H e has a special love for his Pastors, Rev. J.O. Johnson, and Rev. Dan J. Craig. He loved his church family, and had a fierce love for his personal family.
Deleon had a strong countenance and when the battle of illness fell upon him, he rarely complained. He never questioned "why me". He accepted the will of God for his life and the path that God set before him. Deleon loved the story of Job and often related his life to the story. During his darkest hours he would meditate on the scripture "the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away, blessed be the name of the Lord". So he followed the instructions of the Apostle Paul and he pressed toward the mark of a higher calling. As he stumbled, he pressed during his illness, he pressed , during his pain, he pressed and NOW, he sits in the presence of God receiving his reward. Hearing God his father proclaim ,WELL DONE! My good and faithful servant. WELL DONE! Thou hasn't been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of the Lord.
Deacon Brunson is predeceased by his mother, Mrs. Henrietta Barton; father, Deacon Deleon T. Brunson, Sr; sister, Henrietta Teresa Brunson; He leaves to celebrate his life, Andrea D.
