Obituary for Sheila "La La" Cato

Sheila T. Cato was born on December 8, 1938 in San Fernando, Trinidad & Tobago. She was the second child to the late Charlie and Mary May Cato. “La La” as she was affectionately called, married Walter Francis and their union produced three children.
She was educated in Trinidad and attended the RC School in Oropuche. Sheila always had a love for sports and steel band. Growing up she was actively involved in sports and loved playing “Net-Ball” for the Lanes club in Trinidad. She would travel 40 miles at a time just to listen musicians playing music.
She started working at an early age at the Hollywood Café in Trinidad. She later worked at the Amral Sultan Khan print Shop as a Book Binder. Once married, she left the workforce to care for her husband and children. She was a free spirited individual, who loved life and she lived her life to the fullest and always marched to the beat of her own drum. La-La loved to spend time with her family and friends, in Trinidad and in the US. She enjoyed cooking, shopping, stimulating her brain with the word puzzle book and playing cards, especially the game of Solitaire in her spear time. She was a force of nature, a quiet storm.
She departed this life peacefully on December 30, 2018 at Beth Israel Hospital. She is preceded in death by her parents Charlie and May Cato, her brother Mervyn Cato, and her grandson Cantwell Wellington. Sheila’s loving memories will be cherished by her Brother Dilworth Cato (wife June), sister Gloria Morrison (husband Clyde), eldest daughter Diane Cato who resides in San Fernando, Trinidad, second daughter Denise Barber(husband James) who resides in Charlotte, NC and her dear Son, Dilly Francis who resides in Brooklyn, NY, five Grandchildren, Darnelle, Daisha, Britney, Deion, Dillon, and two Great Grandchildren, Daniyah and Paris, a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, extended family and friends as well as her two grand-dogs: Polo & Coco.
She will truly be missed but her memories will live on in all of us.….
We Love you “La-La”
