Obituary for Sylvia Bishop
Sylvia Lorraine Bishop was born on July 5, 1954 to her parents, the late Isis Mary Alleyne and Kenneth Ifill. She was the first of five children. Her brother and Sister Winston and Margaret Alleyne proceed her in death. Sylvia grew up in White Hall Village in Barbados, where she enjoyed a close relationship with her siblings. At a very young age she was forced to leave school to assume the responsibilities of caring for her siblings, following the passing of her mother. As a guardian, Sylvia watched over her brothers and sister all the while instilling principles and values that would transcend through the generation.
The happiest day of Sylvia’s life occurred in 1985 when she was united in marriage with Wesley Bishop Sr. on the island of Barbados. While living on the island, she worked diligently to provide financial support for her family. In August 1987 Sylvia and her three children immigrated to the U.S. to join her husband.
Throughout her life in the USA, Sylvia worked as a Home Attendant with many families, where she provided them with exceptional, professional services, even at times travelling with some of her employers from one city to another to work.
Sylvia was a courageous, caring and passionate mother, not only to her children but to other children with whom she connected. She loved people. As a result, her heart and home were always opened to help others in need. She enjoyed an active social life, cooking, entertaining and dressing up. She was also an excellent dancer that made others fearful to stand next to her on the dance floor.
Sylvia was an active member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, up until the time of her passing. There she served as the ECW President, the head usher and as a member of the Vestry Board.
On January 2, 2019 Sylvia enter into rest with her heavenly father, following a brief hospitalization. She is survived by her husband Wesley Bishop Sr., children, Kirk, Wesley Jr., Tracey and Ronnell Bishop, adopted daughter, Narisa Howell, brothers, Ronald and Kenthley Alleyne and Marcus Lynch, aunt, Burnedinne Hunte, Cousins, Jesha and Jefferson Hunte, niece and nephew Amur and Steven Lynch, daughters-in-law, Lisa Bishop and Lisa McCleann, friend, Junior Eversley. Also left to mourn are ten beautiful grandchildren, the Alleyne family in Barbados, the Bishop family and a host of friends.
