Obituary for Calvin Trotman
Calvin McEvans Trotman was born to Grenville and Iris Trotman on May 29, 1936 in Bridgetown, Barbados. Calvin was born and raised as a Jehovah’s witness as his parents were witnesses all their lives. He attended school in Barbados and this is where he learned his trade in carpentry as a young man. To take his knowledge of his trade further, he studied architectural drawing at Bennett College in England.
At the age of 21, Calvin married his first wife, Corlette Jones and had three wonderful children: Corlene Kinch of Barbados, Chesterfield Trotman of Barbados and Catherine Trotman of Germany. After some years of marriage, they divorced and Calvin moved to a little island in the Caribbean called Montserrat where he met Daphne Irene Dyer. Two years of courtship later, he asked for her hand in marriage and they wed on May 25, 1966. From their union brought five lovely children: Delores Dyer of Connecticut, Jasmine Trotman-Lyte of England, Ishmael Trotman (deceased), Michael Trotman of England and Trevor Trotman of New York.
After finding his calling in carpentry, Calvin travelled to several islands in the Caribbean eager to help others. As a contractor in Montserrat, he oversaw the construction of many buildings including: the Royal Bank, Barclays Bank and Shamrock Cinema to name a few, along with several dwelling houses and swimming pools. He also took his trade to Antigua and St Lucia overseeing the construction of buildings and homes before moving back to Barbados in 1975 to continue his passion for carpentry. It was there that he oversaw the building of Oistins Shopping Plaza, St Lucy Secondary School and numerous dwelling houses.
Calvin later migrated to New York at the age of 50 where he continued to work in his field, mixing and mingling with many people from different cultures. People appreciated his kindness, humility and desire to help others in any way that he could. Calvin was well-loved, respected and appreciated by all who knew him and because of this, his spirit will continue to live on with us. His love for his family and friends will never be forgotten.
Calvin McEvans Trotman was called home by Jehovah God on December 10, 2018. Calvin leaves to cherish and celebrate his love his 7 children, 23 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 3 brothers and 3 sisters and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends too numerous to mention.
Calvin has left a legacy of love, peace and unity for us all to carry on.
