Grandma Sharon Obituary

Sharon Thomas, affectionately known as “Sista”, was born in Warfield, VA on October 29th, 1952 to her late loving parents, William C. Thomas and Mylan Thomas. Sista received her formal education through the Brooklyn, New York education system, (Thomas Jefferson High School). After her studies, she went on to work at the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, as well as the Jacob Javits Center.

Sista accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and savior years ago as a young child in Virginia. She would jokingly reenact how the mothers of the church would have all the children standing at the alter saying, “Jesus, Jesus, Jesus”. This was a tradition of the Baptist church to aid the children in receiving the Holy Spirit. When asked did she receive the Holy Spirit at that time, Sista lovingly confessed “No, but I acted like I did, just so the mothers would let me go and play”. As fate would have it, Sista went on to become a church mother herself at the Rehoboth Cathedral in Brooklyn, NY.

Sista had many gifts. She was an excellent cook. However, her most amazing gift of all was her hospitality. She truly loved to give help and love to those in need. It gave her joy to be able to provide for others. She would often feed them, clothe them, and take them into her home to care for them until they were back on their feet.

Anyone who knew Sista knew she was OCD clean, and always dressed clean as the board of health. She enjoyed shopping, eating in great restaurants, watching old westerns and spending time with her friends and family. She truly enjoyed spending time with the youngest member of the family, her great-granddaughter Talyn. She departed this life Tuesday, April 9th, 2019 in Brooklyn, NY surrounded by family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father William Carter Thomas, mother Mylan Thomas, brother Herbert Thomas, sister Margaret Richards, nephew Lorenzo Thomas Jr., and niece Paula Chinnery.

She leaves to mourn her loving husband Fred “Al” German, her loving children: daughter Tanyshia (Desi) Thomas-Rivers (Jamal Rivers); daughters Chasity Slade, Subrennia Fletcher, Sharon German, and Tasha German; granddaughter Britany Williams (Kevin Williams), great-granddaughter Talyn Williams; brother Anthony Thomas (Cynthia Thomas); sisters Sigrid Chinnery, Lois Bratton; god-children Vernon Bratton, Shamel Johnson, and DC; dedicated and loyal friend and sis Deborah Cole; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
