Obituary for Rosa Lee Smith

Bishop Rosa Lee Smith was born Rosa lee Man( lovingly called (Granny) in Oriental, North Carolina to the
late Hattie Badger Mann and Romance Mann She received her preliminary formal education in the
North Carolina school System. In the mid 1930’s Rosa lee met Nehemiah Boomer and had Reva Boomer
Boyce and Hattie Boomer Hunt. Her children was her everything and she made sure to give them a great
life. Later on she married Theodore Smith and migrated her children to Brooklyn, NY. She went on to
become a registered nurse working in NYC hospitals. She also worked at Bethany Baptist Church where
she retired.
In the mid 1960’s Bishop Smith received her calling from Christ, she was then ordained at St Michaels
Spiritual Church in Brooklyn, NY under the leadership of the late Bishop Enoch Mincey. Bishop Smith was
also the President of the St Michaels Gospel Echo singing group. She was a bold soldier and continued
her walk with Christ and was later ordained a Bishop under the leadership of the late Bishop Edward Hall
with the MGSC. Her love for God was immeasurable. She made sure that her children, grand children
and the rest of her family knew about the gospel of Jesus Christ. One thing for certain, if you stayed at
Granny’s house on a Saturday night, you were sure to get up on Sunday Morning for Church.
In the mid 1970’s Bishop Smith opened and started her own church, New Hope Spiritual Church, which
was located in Manhattan, NY. She then decided to move her family and church family to worship in
Brooklyn, NY at Temple of Truth under the leadership of the late Bishop JJ Kirton.
Bishop Smith was an affiliate of the order of the Eastern Star. Her dedication to her church, her
organizations and to her family was outstanding.
During her final days, Granny had a wonderful compassionate team of nurses that came to take care of
her daily. We would like to thank Jacqueline , Christine Clark and Immacula Duperval.
Granny lived to see and meet FIVE generations and just met the newest two babies in 2018.
On Saturday May 4 th 2019 God called her home. Her job here on earth was completed. After running for
Jesus a long, time, he said well-done thy good and faithful servant. Take your rest.
Bishop Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Smith. Nehemiah Boomer, Her children
Reva Boyce and Hattie Hunt. Her granddaughter Diane Anthony, great grandson, Keith Anthony Jr. Her
brothers Jesse Green, Prince, Green, Walter Green and one sister Florence Mann.
She leaves to mourn and cherish her memory her 9 grandchildren, Elder Michael Boomer (Carrie), Elder
Aarron Boyce(Naomi), Pastor Vicki Boomer-Harris, Eric Boyce, Rosa Bullock (Lavon), Latasha Rice
(Timothy), Patricia Hunt, Monica Bailey and Clarice Hunt-Skipper. Her 31 great grand children,
Christopher Boomer, Jose Boomer, Monique Boomer, Erin Boyce, Ineisha Boyce, Rendell Boyce, Vekesha
Coley, Zulema Hunt, Vanessa Boomer, Aliyah Boomer, Felicia Hunt, James Chandler, Christopher
Chandler, Jermaine Chandler, Jennifer Chandler, Shameeka Anthony, Antonio Skipper, Erica Boyce
Shawn Boyce, Shavon Dozier, Shakeena Thornhill (Tony) Shanaya Williams, Maliek Smiley, Makiyah
Smiley, Tommie Pettie Jr., Shariff Oliphant, Rasheem Hunt, Patrice Hunt, Gabrielle Gomez, Anthony

Bailey and Reign White. One God daughter Feena Murphy, two sister in laws Emma Smith, Love Boomer
and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
