Irene Hutchison was born in SC to Elliot and Rosa Bell Hammond on February 13, 1929. She always said and celebrated her birthday on February 12th because it was a holiday. She was born into a family of nine children of which there were two sets of twins, she was number 8. All preceded her in death including her parents. She attended Bethel-Hanberry School in Blythewood, SC.
While living in SC she bored two daughters. After that she moved from SC to Harlem where she married her first husband Nathaniel Hutchinson and gave birth to her only son. Finally, she moved to Brooklyn, NY where she lived out the rest of her life and gave birth to her last three daughters. She married her second husband James Glover and then divorced.
Upon arriving to NY she worked as a domestic housekeeper and lived her best life. She attended True Worship Church then later a member of God’s BluePrint for life Ministry. She was a member of the Pink Houses Senior Center.
Irene was a giving women. She impacted everyone she came in contact with. Always a smile on her face. Caring for many. She was always seen going to the store, sitting in the park drinking her favorite beverage and eating her skins. She was invited to everyone’s party because she was “The Dancer”. If there was music playing, she is dancing, on the streets, in the stores and at the church. No matter what type of music, she’s getting it in.
She leaves to remember her five daughters Rose Chestnut of the home, Lillie Welch and Judy Hutchinson of NY, Margie Belton (Raymond) and Rosalind Brown of SC and one son Nathaniel Hutchinson of SC.
Two goddaughters Diana Murray (Ronnie), Tina Davis and one godson John Conway all of NY. Nine grandchildren, nine great grands and two great great grands. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, friends and neighbors.
