Obituary for Douglas Bloomfield
Douglas George Oglivie Bloomfield was born on August 21st 1964 in Jubilee Hospital in Kingston Jamaica to father Ernest Bloomfield and mother Veronica Wilson both of whom predeceased him when he was still a youth. Douglas Bloomfield was a man known by many names; he was known as son, brother, husband, friend and above all father. He took pride in all the titles that he had to carry and the weight that came with them.
In his early years, Douglas attended Jones Town Primary School and after passing the Common Entrance exam he went on to attend Kingston College. The passing of his father at the tender age of fourteen made it difficult for him to continue at Kingston College therefore he went on to continue his education at Charlie Smith High School, where he became the first head boy. It was during these formative years that Douglas accepted the Lord and was baptized into the Seventh Day Adventist church, where he became a member of the Kencot SDA church in Kingston.
After graduating from Charlie Smith High School he went on to further his education at The Mico Teachers’ College, where he pursued a teaching diploma in Mathematics and Science. While at The Mico Teachers’ College, he met the love of his life Tanya Marie Thompson. In the year 1991 they exchanged vows and became man and wife though the sanctity of marriage. This union produced four precious jewels whom Douglas loved and cherished endless. They are his sons, Doushane and Odaine, and his daughters Krysalli, and Douyanna. Regrettably, in 1996 tragedy struck the family as the first son Doushane relieved his mortal coil in an untimely manner.
Douglas’s professional career started when he worked briefly as a teacher after graduating from Mico. Following this he moved on to become a Corrections Officer in the Jamaican Correctional Services. He served in that capacity for six years, and went on to build his career with the company Industrial Gases Limited, where he worked another five years as a Supervisor in an administrative capacity.
In 2003, the family migrated to the United States of America, where Douglas continued his education and attained a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Western Governors University. He proceeded to teach in different institutions such as UFT Charter School with his last place of employment being Rising Ground Academy.
In September 2019 Douglas’s battle with cancer became an insurmountable burden. Despite the effort of his medical team he was unable to defeat this unyielding foe. On October 24th 2019 this world lost a great friend, brother, and father who lived a life to be echoed by those that he has left behind.
Douglas Bloomfield is survived by son Odaine, daughters Krysalli and Douyanna. His brother Anthony, nephews levhaun, Sheldon, Tawayne and Josh. Nieces Danyata, Lemoya, and Jhorde. Uncle Carl, cousin Valery and a host of other family, friends.
