Obituary for Harry Lawton Jr.

Harry Lawton, Jr. was born August 5, 1934 in Brooklyn, New York. He was the son of Harry Lawton, Sr. and Mary McVay Porter. Harry went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 20, 2019.
In his early years, Harry was educated in Brooklyn, New York and attended Boys High School.
He entered the United States Army in 1953 and became a decorated veteran serving his country during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1959 as a Corporal.
Following his tenure in the service Harry returned home to Brooklyn where he had the opportunity to join the New York City Housing Authority. Harry took great pride in his work at Housing and was eventually promoted to Assistant Resident Superintendent and after many years of fruitful service, retired in 1988.
Harry inherited his Mother’s flare for cooking and embellished these talents with a certificate from the School of Culinary Arts, New York Catering and Management. Harry was known for his tasty dishes shared with his many family members, friends, and colleagues. There was always food, good times, and great music at Harry’s get togethers.
An avid lover of sports and a former stand-out baseball player, Harry loved, (and despised!) his New York sports teams and could be counted on to hold endless conversations about the latest stats and game highlights.
Harry will be lovingly remembered by his children, a host of family members, friends, colleagues, and loved ones.

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7- 8
