Obituary for Audrey Esmeralda Chapman

Audrey Esmeralda Chapman was born in St. Michael
Barbados on November 12, 1916 to the late Ada Louise
Chapman and Louis Harper. She was the first of two
children. Her brother Harold Chapman preceded her in
death. She was educated at the St. Stephen’s Girls School.
After completing her education, she pursued her love for
sewing and was well known for making school uniforms
for the neighborhood children.
Sister Chapman emigrated to the United States of
America in the year 1977 at the invitation of her daughter
Ercil. Residing on Herkimer Street, she met her dear
friend Sister Dolly Archer, who invited her to attend the
Mt. Zion Tabernacle C.M.O.P. where she became a
member. She was active in the Senior Choir and was Vice
President of the Praying Band.
Gran, as she was affectionately called, was well known for
her baking and culinary skills, making tasty fishcakes,
cassava pone, corn pone and sweet bread.
After a short illness, Sister Chapman went home to be
with the Lord on December 5, 2019 at the ripe old age of
103 years old. She leaves to mourn and cherish her
memories: Her children, Cora, Ercil, Ashton, Victoreen,
Audrey-Verlene, Jeff, Sandra, Basil and Carlyn. Nineteen
grandchildren, twenty-six great grands and eleven great
great grands. Great nieces and nephews, cousins, family
and friends. Also, her dear and devoted friend Sis. Dolly
Archer and the Mt. Zion Church family. She was
preceded in death by two of her children Rudy and
Maureen.
