Obituary for Harold Fortune

Harold Lee Fortune was born to the late Catherine Fortune and Carnell Monroe
on February 12, 1947 in Baltimore, Maryland. He attended Eastern High in
Sumter,SC where he later graduated in 1965.
After high school he later relocated to Brooklyn, NY with his oldest sister
Annie Fortune in 1965. The two were very close being raised together in South
Carolina. He affectionately referred to her as a “mom”. Throughout the years he
worked several jobs. To name a few the Laundry Service, Vacuum Repair and
Security.
In 1969 Harold married Etherine Smith from that union a son was born Harold T.
Fortune.
Harold gave his heart to the Lord at an early age. He was a member of Goodwill
Presbyterian Church in Sumter,SC Once he moved to New York he attended First
Jerusalem Baptist Church in Brooklyn,NY.
First and foremost, Harold loved the Lord. He also enjoyed music and playing pool
in his free time. Harold was known to have a gentle smile, kind heart and humble
spirit.
Harold transitioned from this life into the presence of our Lord on Friday, January
1,2021. He was preceded in death by his sister Carolyn Robinson and brother
Douglas Murphy.
Harold leaves to cherish his memory his son Harold Tyrone (Tyke), Five
grandchildren Latoryia, Imani, Tyriek, Tai and Massai. Three great-grandchildren
Naila, Amare and London. Three siblings Annie Fortune, Rebecca Terell (Jesse) and
James Murphy. One aunt Mary F. Cooper of Sumter,SC and a host of other
relatives and friends.
In this time of sorrow, we can all gain strength through the mercy of our Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ, and the knowledge that he is finally at peace.
